Curriculum
The curriculum of the Childcare centre is crucial in stimulating the intellectual development of your child. The programme that the children are exposed to should help them develop to the best of their abilities. Check if the childcare centre’s curriculum is aligned with the Singapore Early Years Development Framework (EYDF), so you can be sure your child is growing up in a holistic environment.
At Genesis Childcare 1989, the principal, teachers and caregivers carefully plan the curriculum.
To ensure the children are well developed holistically, with a positive mindset and good moral values, Genesis developed a curriculum that provides a bilingual learning experience. We help the children developed the necessary skills and knowledge needed to help them successfully transit to Primary school with ease.
Currently, we are using a Thematic Learning Approach for our English and Chinese curriculum. Activities and lessons will be centered around the theme. The children will be able to explore, learn and investigate ideas, they will also go for field trips to further extend and reinforce the knowledge and concepts acquired in class.
Our Chinese curriculum is supported by the well-acclaimed 孔子学院华文教学 (Kong Zi Xue Yuan Chinese Teaching Program) This program comes with a full set of big books, lesson plans and teaching materials. These facilitate the teachers to deliver a fun and effective learning experience which will help the children master the Chinese language.
For Phonics, we are using the Letterland Program to help the children read, write and spell. Through the Letterland stories, the teacher will explain the letter shapes and sounds which promotes children to progress quickly to word building, reading and writing.
Math and Science concepts are introduced naturally through hands-on activities and play. Activities sheets are designed to help the children practise the skills learned.
We also conduct Music and Movement, Arts, Outdoor Play and cookery lessons where children will be exposed to different forms of learning.
Equipment and environment
Besides the curriculum, the resources within the centre are significant as well. The equipment used should be age-appropriate and are able to help children get the most out of their daily activities.
Space. See whether there is sufficient space for the children. Are they able to sit/stand comfortably and participate fully in activities, whether in groups or individually?
Sufficient indoor space is also indicated via clear pathways for staff and children's movement with minimal disruption or distraction to others. For example, are there clear pathways to support children’s free movement throughout the day?
At Genesis Childcare 1989, we believe the environment is the children’s third teacher hence it should meet the learning and development needs of our little learners.
We design our learning environment where children will build upon their prior knowledge and extend their learning as they interact with it.
The main focus would be reading where books are accessible to all children to help them broaden their horizons through the literacy materials which we place on the reading shelves for them.
Our learning environment stimulates their senses and encourages them to explore, discover and be creative. Safety and hygiene are our top priorities, therefore, we clean and disinfect our learning space regularly.
By providing a conducive learning environment for the children, we hope to better support their curiosity and experience the wonder of learning.
Meal plans
After a time of learning and playing, your child will definitely be hungry! You should also consider the meal plans that infant care centres offer, since food is a crucial factor for proper growth and development. Some centres do ensure that the children are provided with nutritious meals that are suitable and recommended for children, and this can definitely give your child a boost in physical and cognitive development.
Inculcating healthy eating habits from a young age is important as it determines a child’s diet when he/she grows up. A balanced and nutritious meal is what a child needs to improve brain function, memory and concentration.
At Genesis Childcare 1989, we provide meals that are healthy and savoury. Most importantly, they are prepared in a manner that is suitable for our babies to consume. Our in-house chef would prepare fresh meals daily for our children, with a menu that has the nutrients recommended for children their age.
Regular Updates
The Childcare Centre should regularly communicate with parents. Communication is key as it helps the parent to be aware of your child’s growth and development. This is especially important as young children are beginning to develop cognitive, social and emotional skills. Hence, the Childcare Centre should keep you constantly informed about your child’s progress to help you ensure your child’s healthy growth.
At Genesis Childcare 1989, we use various means to actively communicate with parents. For example, we use the app “ClassDojo” to send messages to individual parents, broadcast messages and also as a platform to post photos of the individual child. It is also used to share more details about what the child did during his/her day at the Childcare Centre. For caregivers or parents who might not be comfortable using the app, we will still use a “personal communication book” for all children to communicate important information with parents.
